Unpaid leave

I have already reflected 2017 in the post before and I briefly dropped into this post that I was taking unpaid leave from work. Well that is all about to come reality.

Over the Christmas period I haven’t really had chance to think about it all or even digest what an earth is going on. However, now sat here thinking about entering the new year. It has hit me that a lot of people on the 2nd of January will be returning to work – I won’t be one of them.

It has been a dream and a goal of mine to take time off, whenever that may be and go travelling/volunteer or live abroad for a substantial amount of time. Alex knew all this when he met me and now both going to embarking on this together it is now a joint adventure.

This was planned in our heads around a year ago, we had done our calculations for finances and factored in the time periods. We kept our plans close to our chest as I had to get the time off approved by work.

People have said that it is irresponsible to travel when you are doing well in your career. However, this to me is far from irresponsible. Yes my job/career may take a hit in the short term but in the long term I will gain so much from this experience, bettering me as a person. I feel like I should grab this opportunity whilst I can, as there will be a lot more things in the future that will hold me back.

So whats the plan you keep asking? The plan is no plan. We fly to Dubai, a few days later to Colombo in Sri Lanka and after that we haven’t planned a thing. We hope to see where it all takes us. If we are happy why plan to rush 3/4 places in a week. It does not matter if we stay 3 days or 3 months in one place so long as we are happy.

So on the 22nd December I put my out of office on…
