Alex and I went to Mallorca for some late September sunshine. It was a short break but the weather and the island did not disappoint. I will be going back – that’s for sure.
Day 1
We flew into Palma de Mallorca Airport, collected our hire car and before we knew it we were driving in golden hour up to Sóller. We didn’t want to stay anywhere too touristy. More of a local feel but having the car meant we could access the beaches and be more independent.
We checked into the gorgeous Can Veri Suites. A family run business offering very chic suites, in the centre of Sóller. We love having our own space to relax and not feeling like we have to sit in a hotel lobby. Also, having the flexibility to make breakfast and lunch. I honestly could not fault this place. It was gorgeous, the staff (family) were incredibly attentive and not to mention the incredible sound proof windows. Central location, but yet feeling like a total oasis inside away from it all.

Day 2
We decided to have a drive out on the mountain roads to Tuent beach. It was much quieter than than the more touristy neighbouring beach Sa Calobra. I would say the driving was easy but if you haven’t driven abroad often, I would take the mountain passes with caution. They are incredibly steep with passing large buses and a LOT of cyclists to overtake.
I was very impressed with the parking as the machines all took card! Even in the more remote places. We set up camp on the beach, a very quaint spot with not much amenities. We swam, explored around the cove and watched the boats coming and going.
We packed our lunch with our usual fresh baguettes and nibbles as we didn’t think there would be anything there. There wasn’t – apart from a restaurant at the top of the cliff (Restaurant Es Vergeret). We wondered up to have a drink instead of food – it was a gorgeous setting. The food also looked amazing.

After our day outing we went down to Port Sóller for dinner. We ate at Restaurant Es Passeig. It was delicious and so was the sunset view.

Day 3
We got up early as it was warmer than usual for this time of year. We did a circular valley walk from Sóller to Fornalutx. I have linked the walk here . This was a great easy hike to do. Even if you’ve gone to Sóller and not taken your hiking kit. This walk was easy to do without full gear. We had heard the hiking was good in Mallorca but with only a few days here we didn’t have time to fit more in. I think if I go back I would plan more of a hiking trip.
The hike took us past some gorgeous farm houses and up to the little town of Fornalutx. Where we stopped for coffee in the square, people watching. The circular route was great – taking us back on footpaths meandering through the orange groves and the terraces style farm land rather than on the roads.
We got back and grabbed some fresh pastries and sat on the balcony.

After some lunch we headed down to Port Soller to the beach and relaxed there with some smoothies for most of the afternoon/early evening.

Day 4
We went down to Port Sóller for the morning, chilled at Bar Oceà having coffee and reading. We grabbed our baguette lunch and picked up some afternoon snacks. We hired a small motor boat from Maksy Boats in, Port Sóller for the afternoon. They were a very thorough company, which gave us great confidence that the boats were well maintained.
After a safety briefing, we motored out of Port Sóller and headed South. We got used to the boat (mostly me) at how it felt to go faster than the 6knts I was used to on sail boat. Exploring the jagged coast line we made our first anchor spot in Cala de Deià. It was incredible to be able to explore these places by sea rather than the land – it gave everything a different perspective.
After some snorkelling and jumping off the boat far too many times we headed to Cova de Sa Foradada. These amazing rock formations and coastline here is worth visiting whether thats by boat or foot.
We then headed north, passing Port Sóller entrance and made our last anchor point at Sa Illeta. The sun was about to set, no one was around and a beer was in hand. Skinny dips were a must. And a perfect way to end an incredible day.

Day 5
Alex and I had been feeling slightly rubbish after our boat trip. We were definitely coming down with a cold. Having planned Palma for the day, we didn’t not want to come to Mallorca and not actually see Palma. So we ventured in. We drove into the city and found a central car park, here.
Feeling under the weather we managed a walk around waterfront and the Sa Llotja area gazing at all the gothic architecture. After the midday heat kicked in, we headed back. I siested hard that afternoon.

I was gutted to not be able to explore Palma properly. However, all the more reason to come back!
Day 6
We checked out of the Can Veri suite after a late breakfast and drove north then around the the west of the island, checking out view spots. We found a late lunch spot before heading to the airport.

Apart from being ill towards the end of the holiday, this was a great trip. There really is something for everyone on the island. A great hiking or cycling adventure, a city break in Palma or a relaxing beach holiday.
What’s your favourite thing about Mallorca? Or if you haven’t been yet – what are your plans?
