Southern Spain Road Trip

For those that know me, they know Mojácar in Southern Spain is one of my favourite places. I wrote a small blog about this gorgeous town a few years back now, you can find it here. Alex and I have been 3 times here together, and this year would be our 4th. We knew we wanted some sun and some time to relax. However, we also wanted to explore a little more of the Andalusia region.

We extended our intended week trip to 10 days and made a road trip plan with a relaxing 5 nights at the end in Mojácar.

We flew into Almeria to pick up the car and drove straight to Malága (a 2 hour drive). I’m not afraid of driving a abroad, I can get in the car and not think too much, relaxing into left hand driving. However, driving into a city I’ve never been to, at night and on the wrong side of the road made for an interesting entrance into Malága. Alex was navigating for the first leg of our road trip, and the built up narrow streets meant the GPS couldn’t pin point our exact spot meaning we missed several turnings and ended up in a maze of one way streets. Once finding the car park in central Malaga, we wheeled our cases around the corner and checked in to the gorgeous Only YOU Malaga.

Exploring Malága (2 nights)

To do;

  • Castillo de Gibralfaro
  • Port/Harbour

  • Picasso Museum
  • Roman theatre
  • Alcazaba

Eating;

  • Brunch it
  • El Pimpi

Sweating around Seville (2 nights)

We drove 2 hours from Malaga to Seville, setting off in the morning after breakfast, hoping it wouldn’t be the mid day heat when we arrived. Although we soon realised that didn’t matter – it’s always hot in Seville. Sitting on the rooftop of the hotel we looked at each other “how are we going to walk any where in this”.

We got up early to explore and also went out in the even before dinner, to try catch the coolest parts of the day. Whats great in Seville is that small streets mean they are well shaded! They also have a lot of canopies covering large open squares in the centre.

We stayed in the absolute oasis that is Placido y Grata.

To do;

  • Royal Alcazar
  • Plaza de España
  • Seville Cathedral
  • Metropol Parasol

Eating;

  • Bar el Comercio (Churros)
  • El Rinconcillo
  • El Pinton
  • Casa Ozama
  • Filo (cafe)

Mojácar (5 nights)

We arrived in Mojácar, after a 4.5hour drive from Seville. We headed for our favourite beach bar Titos for some well deserved lunch. We spent the next 5 days, relaxing, reading books and taking trips to the beach. We explored the old town which is beautiful and also eating at a lot of beach side restaurants.
