It’s definitley been a while since I last posted. But I thought I’d share about an amazing weekend that occurred back in April. I meant to write about this sooner, but life seems to get in the way. I think about this trip a lot, about how great it was to just do something completely different.
I booked on to a Women and Waves (W+W) Newquay surf coaching weekend back in December. Luckily Covid19 restrictions lifted a week before, meaning the trip could go ahead in mid April. I booked an Airbnb for both the Friday and Saturday night, so I was fresh for the 10am session on the Saturday. I had never been to Newquay before, so I wanted to explore on the Friday. I then surfed both Saturday and Sunday on Fistral beach, with W+W, the location was absolutely stunning.

There was 2 days of tuition and it was tailored to our needs and experience, or lack of. I had been on a surf board before and managed to catch a few waves but I am beginner by any standards.
The ladies were split up into ability groups. And over the weekend you could move between if you felt it necessary.

There was plenty of lesson time and I was absolutely shattered. The water was cold, wearing a 4:3 wetsuit was just right in the April temperate sea for a few hours. After the adrenaline and paddling, you soon warmed up anyways.
The sessions were about 3 hours long and a small break for hot chocolate. I believe there is an afternoon session in the summer months, however its too cold to be putting wet wetsuits back on over the winter/spring. The one long session was perfect and then the late afternoon was for warming up and going through the footage the photographers captured of the group.
The video analysis was great – a little intimidating. However extremely useful to see where you were going wrong. I then was able to build on what I’d learnt in the Sunday session and was substantially more confident.
On the Saturday evening we had a small beach gathering, ate and chattered until the sun went down

It was an lovely weekend filled with like minded women. And it was also amazing to just learn a new skill and do something completely different.
What have you new skill have you learnt recently?
